Grand Resort Bad Ragaz: a Refreshing Alpine Adventure

For all the wonders of true relaxation, rejuvenation, and inspiration amid spectacular scenery, Kommersant UK presents an extraordinary leisure location that combines preventive medicine with true hedonism and state-of-the-art standarts with the centuries-old traditions of a Swiss spa. Beyond creating unforgettable memories, Grand Resort Bad Ragaz sets out a unique vision of what a holiday should be like.

Spa treatments and Wellness at Any Time of Year

The resort's guiding principles are timeless elegance, graceful design, and stylish comfort. Two five-star grand hotels (Grand Hotel Quellenhof & Spa Suites and Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz) are both located in the beautiful Alpine countryside of Eastern Switzerland, just an hour away from Zurich and St. Gallen. In three hours, you can drive to Munich, Milan, the Principality of Liechtenstein or Austria. Lake Constance is also located nearby.

Despite its accessibility, you probably won’t take a step outside the resort, because it is equipped with everything you need for a complete reboot of mind, feelings and body; pure mountain air, untouched nature and a luxurious spa with its own thermal spring, comprehensive wellness treatments and an individual approach.
Guests can choose between the timeless elegance of the Grand Hotel Quellenhof with its refined spa suites or the stylish ambience of the Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz. The 247 rooms and suites feature unique furnishings, fine Italian granite bathrooms and breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps from every window.

The resort has seven restaurants (awarded six Michelin stars and one green Michelin star), 13 conference rooms and a casino. But the greatest treasure of the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is the magnificent spa. The thermal spa spans more than 14,000 square metres and is fed by thermal spring water from the Tamina Gorge (Taminaschlucht), which is potable and maintains a constant temperature of 36.5 °C (it has been used for the treatment of guests for more than a hundred years!). Guests can find ten indoor and outdoor thermal pools, saunas and steam baths, as well as the Tamina Therme sauna complex with an area of more than 1,300 square metres. Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a jacuzzi or hydromassage shower, dine in the garden overlooking the mountains, and visit the treatment room. There is also a 550-square-metre family spa that combines wellness with amusement and play, offering special spa procedures for children as well as alternative and holistic wellness treatments.

The NEWYOU Method

Guests may also receive expert advice from medical centre staff who can help select recovery programmes to reinforce healthy lifestyles and combat various health issues. You will find at your service experts in sports medicine, sleep and mental health, dentistry, dermatology and cosmetic surgery, neurology and even traditional Chinese medicine. Using the expertise of the medical centre, the resort has developed a unique approach to wellness, called the NEWYOU Method®, which is grounded in medical science, supplemented by wellness and nutrition, allowing you to integrate healthy habits into your routine, optimise your lifestyle and affect a real transformation so that you can stay healthy years after your holiday at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz ends. The resort's medical experts will guide you on the path of change to a long and fulfilling life; the NEWYOU Method® has been demonstrated to help improve quality of life and prevent many diseases long before they appear.

Clinic Bad Ragaz: The Finest Rehabilitation Has to Offer

Besides the medical centre, the resort also boasts the Clinic Bad Ragaz, which treats guests with diseases of the internal organs and neurological and musculoskeletal systems, who receive comprehensive professional help. Here, rehabilitation is treated as an art form and recovery is sought at all sensory levels. A team of highly qualified doctors and nurses helps patients to recover in the following areas:

- Rehabilitation after treatment in internal medicine;

- Muscoloskeletal rehabilitation;

- Neurological Rehabilitation;

- Rehabilitation for cancer patients;

The clinic offers a combination of the very highest standarts of evidence-based medical expertise in the world and outstanding five-star hotel facilities. Individualised, exclusive and competent.

The Summer Season: Golf and Hedonism

Let's not forget about hedonism and our own pleasure. The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz lies in the heart of the Bündner Herrschaft wine region, frequently called the ‘Little Burgundy of Switzerland’. This is the warmest wine-growing region in German-speaking Switzerland, and it is believed that wine production here began in 1068, at the Salenegg castle in Maienfeld. Around 70 wineries produce more than 50 different wines, of which Blauburgunder dominates. Many of them have received prestigious awards in international competitions, which can easily be explained by the unique local microclimate, which helps this type of Pinot Noir to express itself. Local producers to have attained titles in world championships include Martin Donatsch, the brothers Ueli and Jürg Liesch, Georg Schlegel from Weingut zur Alten Post in Jenins and most recently, the winemakers of Pinot-Rhein. If you are interested in the winemaking process and tasting the noble drink, you can visit numerous vineyards and cellars, many of which are just a ten-minute drive from the resort.

You can also sign up for a tasting tour at the hotel; tastings are held at any time of the year, but the vines are usually pruned for winter.
End the day in one of the luxurious Michelin-starred restaurants, from Memories, with its cuisine using local, seasonal ingredients, to verve by sven, where the culinary philosophy will support your desire for positive change and a healthy lifestyle (without compromising the taste of the dishes!).

Every year Bad Ragaz hosts the GaultMillau Garden Party gastronomic festival, attended by the best chefs of Switzerland and from all over the world who give their best for 500 guests. The menu includes dishes such as foie gras, seafood, truffles, ceviche and other dizzying gastronomic delights, accompanied by the best wines of the region.
The hotel also features two award-winning golf courses; an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole executive course. The unique Swiss landscape allows you to train amid breathtaking scenery. The coaches and instructors at the golf centre help even those who have never held a golf club before to master ‘the sport of aristocrats’.

The Winter Season: the Ski Slopes Open

If you think that with the onset of cold weather life at the resort comes to a standstill, then think again. The region surrounding Bad Ragaz is well-known for its mountain scenery, hiking trails and natural attractions. The resort is located in the foothills of the Alps in Eastern Switzerland, a 90-minute drive from the famous ski town of St. Moritz, which has hosted the Winter Olympics twice, in 1928 and 1948, and is world-famous as the birthplace of bobsleigh.

In the area of Pizol, a short walk from the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, you will find the ‘winter paradise’ of Flumserberg (the largest winter resort with 65 kilometres of slopes). Other Swiss ski resorts including Flims-Laax-Falera Arosa-Lenzerheide and Davos are within a 45-minute drive. People come here for downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
